The Liberation Trailer

Bleecker Street has released the official trailer for The Liberation, Guy Nattiv's cult drama starring Carrie Coon. It opens in limited release on January 8, 2027.

The story

Coon plays Rita, a Holocaust survivor and mother still wrestling with her past, who leaves her family to follow Ricki, a charismatic spiritual leader, to an all-female commune. When her daughters arrive and start getting drawn into the group too, Rita has to choose between her family and the life she believes can save her. The story is personal for Nattiv: Rita is inspired by his own grandmother, Rita Cooper. The film was originally titled Harmony, after the cult at its centre.

Who's in it

Carrie Coon leads as Rita, with Lily James as the cult leader Ricki. Bella Ramsey and Odessa Young play Rita's daughters, Ella and Jo, and Tracy Letts, Coon's real-life husband, plays her husband on screen.

Behind the camera

Nattiv, who won an Oscar for his short film Skin, directs from a screenplay he wrote with Noa Berman-Herzberg. Dascha Dauenhauer composed the score. The film played the fall festival circuit, including Toronto, ahead of its release, and runs just over two hours.

Distributed by Bleecker Street.
