Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Karōshi, an action thriller from the team behind the John Wick films. It opens in theaters on February 5, 2027.
The story
The film is set in a near-future Manhattan where corporate loyalty and cultural tradition have reshaped everyday life. After a worker's death, a mysterious outsider gets inside a powerful company and starts exposing the violent system hidden beneath its polished surface. The title is the Japanese term for death from overwork, and early coverage has described the film as a corporate thriller with a samurai twist.
Who's in it
Teo Yoo, best known for Past Lives, leads the film. He's joined by Isabel May (Scream 7), Takehiro Hira (Shōgun), who plays the antagonist, Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent) and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice), with Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) and Cynthia Erivo (Wicked). Richard Harmon also appears.
Behind the camera
Takashi Doscher wrote and directed. Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick series, produces through his action company 87Eleven Entertainment, alongside Jason Spitz, Alex Young and Nathan Kahane. Pawel Pogorzelski is the cinematographer and Pete Beaudreau edits. The film was shot in Vancouver in the summer of 2025, and its release has since moved back a week from its original January 29 date.
