Lionsgate has released the official trailer for Above the Below, a survival thriller that starts in space and ends up at the bottom of the sea. It opens in theaters on December 4, 2026.
The story
Three astronauts make it through a disaster in space, only for their damaged spacecraft to crash-land in the ocean and sink into the deep. Cut off from mission control and with their oxygen running low, they have to make hard choices about who tries for the surface and who stays behind with the wreckage, while new dangers close in around them.
Who's in it
Idris Elba leads the film as Jackson. He's joined by Caitlin FitzGerald as Brooks and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Rhodes, making this a tight three-hander in a very small, very wet space.
Behind the camera
Elba also co-directs, sharing the job with Martin Owen, who came up with the story. The screenplay is by Elizabeth Morris, Matt Mitchell and Vicki Sargent, and Matt Williams and Gina Carter produce through Future Artists Entertainment.
