Jumping right into the review of the Best Picture winner Parasite, something that stood out quite immediately in the film was the writing. The construction of this story was complex on multiple levels. Writers Bong Joon Ho (director) and Han Jin-won crafted a story of a family who lives in a half basement apartment, who con their way into jobs for a wealthy family.
The metaphors are everywhere in this film. The poor family is compared to insects or cockroaches in many different ways. From their smells to their resilience it becomes clear they are going to be tough to remove from their host (parasite).
*Spoilers here*
The son of the poor family, who goes by the name Kevin (played by Choi Woo-sik), states early on in the film that his sister, who goes by the name of Jessica (played by Park So-dam), actually fits in with the wealthy family. Out of any of them she belongs there. This is key in the outcome of the film. Towards the end of the film before the big birthday party massacre. Kevin is looking out over the party and asks the wealthy family's daughter if she thinks he fits in. She's hesitant, but says yes. I think she's lying, which Kevin calls her out on in the beginning of the film, but the reason for this is good for Kevin's sake.
Kevin and Jessica are both injured in the massacre, and Jessica ends up dying. Kevin pulls through with just some brain injuries that seem to heal. Jessica wasn't like the other family members. She wasn't as resilient in the way a cockroach or a parasite is.

This film brought so much to the table from writing, directing, editing, the score, the acting. It is no surprise the amount of accolades that this film accumulated. It is a must watch for any film lover.
