What a ride! Literally!
This film was so fun to watch and once you're on the train you are going full speed until the very end.
I found myself and friends audibly laughing throughout the film's epic action sequences. The star studded cast played comedy into action so well. I loved the two brothers and all the adversaries our lead came in contact with throughout his mission. Getting to see the origin stories for all the characters involved felt very comic book-esk in the best way. I feel like it only added to the story as they all collided at the end of the line.
The whole film is very stylistically shot and has fantastic lighting and costumes. The visual effects were pretty good throughout the film but it did have certain moments that came across as less than realistic. However, I don’t believe following the laws of physics and realism were concerns for the creators of the film who set out to just create a “joy ride” film. To which they strongly delivered!
My biggest gripe with this film is Sandra Bullock’s character. She is peppered throughout the film as a handler for Brad Pitt’s character. Appearing as a voice in his ear for nearly the entire film until the very end with little to no background. As much as I love Sandy B. I felt like her character added very little to the whole story. Her appearance at the end of the film felt very forced and out of place which, in turn, pulled the e-brake in my mind. It threw me back into reality sooner than I would have liked during the film's conclusion and after such a fluid sequence of fast paced action for a solid two hours.
Still, this thrill ride through Japan is not one to miss and sure to be a hit with a wide audience.
